Ameena looked through the binoculars as a series of Galarian Yamasks floated through the city street in front of the morgue. They were captured pokemon, but the owner of the morgue left them out at night to discourage anyone who would try to rob the place, based on their intel. [break][break]

Dusk had fallen, and the duo's mission to capture Galarian form pokemon for the black market was approaching its deadline. "This is not my kind of work," Ameena confessed as she offered the binoculars to her colleague, "but it is more fun than I initially suspected." Black market dealings were a little interesting, as she got to see what was in demand, and the work tended to be easy. It grew her list of successes with the organization, which couldn't hurt. [break][break]

"They are very aimless spirits. I think we can approach now. No one appears to be around." [break][break]

She stepped out from the alley, signaling her Espathra, Edith, to swoop in from high ground and pluck one up in her beak. "Ripe for the picking..."

Another simple job, all things considered. Leilani had once again been swept all the way towards Mauville, standing beside Ameena once more as they scouted the place out. It was to be a pretty simple mission. Just snatching up Yamasks before anybody could claim them for a quick buck on the black market.

“Lot of ‘em.” She commented and knelt down next to the other woman and took the binoculars offered to her. “Good chance of a payday. Should be easy.”

The Alolan followed suit, taking some steps out of the alleyway that Ameena stepped out of and taking another glance around to ensure herself the coast was indeed clear. Taking out a net gun, she'd load up a fresh bundle of nets and slowly begin picking the Yamask off, one by one. Her aim was true and remained impeccable.

"Making short work of 'em. Should be a quickie."

Leilani's net gun work was impeccable. Ameena released Corviknight to host the netted Yamask while Kirlia lifted them onto the large bird. Her Espathra continued to assault the one in her beak, using lumina crash to render it unconscious on the ground. She placed it on Corviknight, also. Ameena still flinched. The noise of such an attack risked raising civilian attention.[break][break]

"Edith, return," she said in a raised voice, getting the bird's attention. She returned it to her pokeball once it got close enough, though it had moved reluctantly. "I love Edith, but her tendency for violence can hinder just as much as it helps. People can be more reasonable than pokemon, at times." Leilani's stealthier approach was superior. [break][break]

Ameena rose as about a dozen Yamask rested on Corviknight's back. "It is a good haul. I think we can go ahead and leave unless you want to shoot a few more just to keep."

One by one, the Pokémon found themselves wrapped up in thick, unruly netting that wasn't able to be escaped from without any exterior assistance. Leilani humphed to herself after every shot. She had some practice back home with this work back home with traditional fishing, but this was at least quicker.

Ameena's Espertha was truly vicious with these poor Yamasks, even managing to outright knock some out. It was terrifying as it was a pretty coordinated attack. Her eyes stopped to marvel at the bird for a moment until it returned to her ball.

”Some Pokémon are just mean.” Lei put it simply before firing another round, then adding, ”Koa’s like that.”

Ever the fountain of commentary, she continued on and on until they had a good portion of Yamask bunched up and ready to go for extract. Lei tossed another bagful into their pile before looking around for any stragglers.

”Wouldn't hurt to get more.” Leilani said and kept her net gun by her side. ”I'll do a circle. Warm up our ride, please.”

"Deputy James, over. I'm on my way."

He made his way to Mossdeep, which was technically outside his deputy jurisdiction. However, Montgomery had an obligation to Hoenn as a member of the police force to respond to any suspicious activity. His car drove up with no lights or sirens, to make a surprise appearance.

As dispatch had announced, two females were there, and there were a few GALARIAN YAMASKS around. Perhaps the others had been caught already. Still, investigation had to be done.

"Evenin', ladies. Might I ask ya what yer doing in this area?"

It was too early to call for success. [break][break]

Ameena had been too invested in the easy, fun mission and didn't hear the man until he spoke. She turned immediately, but it barely gave her time to school her expression. She went for something almost-confused, but pleading, like she needed him to help them desperately -- despite the visual evidence that they had literally netted up Yamask for air-transport. [break][break]

"Why, yes, Sir. We were minding our business and all of these ghosts began spooking us and our pokemon. They are just haunting the place," she said, clutching at her chest. "It has been dreadful." She hoped, as she spoke, Leilani would try to angle herself behind the man and hit him with the heavy net gun.

The arrival of a male to the scene had upset the gender balance, but also proved to be troublesome. Just by his gait alone, Lei assumed he was some kind of Ranger or something. That kind of stride those people had as if they needed to puff out their chest to show you how many badges they had at any time.

Ameena was quick to the gun and answered his question. Leilani stayed back quietly and did her best to tiptoe around and remain out of his direct vision. Sure, it was a little hard but doable with some finesse. She hammed up a reaction as Leil quietly began to step closer and take aim.

Once Ameena had finished, Lei fired off a net round at the officer to try and entangle him in the net.

[attr="class","monty"]Despite ameena abadi trying to plead her innocence with honied words, the evidence behind her told her quite the different story. Montgomery couldn't help but crack a harsh laugh as as he placed his hands on his hips.

"Y'know, I'm not as dumb as you think I am, ma'am. If ya plead yer case honestly, you'll may have better luck with the system. Some advice from me to you," he said, reaching to his side for some cuffs.

However, a heavy net encased him before he had a chance to make his move. He cursed under his breath, his hand swiftly moving to his Poke ball.

"Skarmory, get us out of this thing!" he exclaimed, the metallic bird emerging to attempt at cutting the rope with its sharp wings.

Leilani disappeared in a puff of smoke from one of her pokemon as Mr. Officer released Skarmony to handle his net. Well, Ameena needed to copy that plan, but she had more of a reputation to protect than Leilani, being a public figure (CEO) and partially recognizable with her long pink hair. A little damage control would help prevent this little event from appearing in the tabloids, though she had the money to handle fines and hush the story after day one. [break][break]

Most importantly, she didn't want any law enforcement to be very suspicious of her individually. That kind of relationship only spelled trouble. [break][break]

"I - well, my friend here was looking for... something to scare her ex-boyfriend. I know it is very stupid," she said with her best imitation of remorse. "He cheated, she was mad, and I told her property damage was a bad idea." So far, so good. "So, when we saw a horde of Galarian Yamask, she hatched a plan to set one loose in his apartment." Nevermind that these were caught pokemon and this was poaching.

He pulled the metallic bird back into its ball, scrambling from his binds, as he stood a whole half a food taller than the woman he was about to slap handcuffs on.

"Really? And yer counterpart abandoned ya here to deal with repercussions alone?" Montgomery asked, taking slow steps to her as his hand rested at his side.

He couldn't help a smirk quirking on his lips.

"Some friend." Though, he'd been in that boat before. It wasn't like his former Rocket colleagues had been all that loyal with him before he'd left. "Though surely ya know this is poachin'... and a crime..."

Montgomery stopped before her. "And that's not somethin' I can let slide by easily."

She shrugged in agreement as he implied Leilani was a disloyal friend. Rockets had to watch their own hide. You couldn't help someone else if you couldn't help yourself. She didn't take it personal, especially as Mr. Officer approached with a hand on his hip, clearly not aiming to escalate the situation. [break][break]

Perhaps she could talk her way out of it, then? [break][break]

"I should keep better company," she conceded. He got close. Was that an advantage or a disadvantage? "I figured, one little Yamask for some justice? That is a small price, surely." She didn't think he'd buy coy. Her amusement - and a small bit of the regret - was real, so there was no need to add false layers to the performance. [break][break]

She took a long pause to unabashedly look him over before meeting his eyes completely. "How easy is easy?"

Even if she was a pretty face.

He'd made a promise to himself to discard his criminal ties, to make a better name for himself. That meant following and upholding the law. Slapping the cuffs on her wrist was the correct answer.

"Kinda petty, if ya ask me."

So what did she want? He didn't ignore the look she gave him.

Montgomery laughed. "Hands behind yer back. If ya make things that easy, I'll make sure things go smoothly for ya on my side."

Petty was a generous way of putting it. [break][break]

But he was all business, and she didn't have the time to draw out any pleasure from the exchange. After all, she wasn't well-disguised, and though it was dark out, the exposure of her out with an officer wasn't going to do her any favors. "Oh, Officer... what was it?" There wasn't good enough lighting to see a name on any badge. She put her hands behind herself, but she was still facing him, not totally cooperative. She secured Kirlia's pokeball between her palms. [break][break]

"The justice you seek does not apply to people like me. As CEO of Abundance Connections, I will never spend a night in jail. My lawyers will be at the jailhouse before we arrive, and I will be off with a measly fine. I think the better move is this: let me go, easy, and I promise to make it worth your while the next time we meet." And all of that was truth. Half-truths and full ones made any cover story go easier, but she should've pegged him for no-nonsense from the beginning. Well, perhaps not as no nonsense as that Sheriff in Dewford. This one looked to be more fun.

Was Navy sweet to his troublemakers? Or did this woman have some sort of allure he wasn't able to detect?

With her hands coming behind her back, Montgomery was given the benefit of the doubt: he'd won the battle of words. "Atta girl. See, I can be damn reasonable, and if ya didn't throw a fuckin' net on me..."

Though he interrupted himself with a scoffing laugh, face plastered with the biggest, shit-eating smirk he felt in ages. "One of them folks, huh? You can have yer lawyers play 'round the law, Sweetheart, but ya know it still applies to ya whether yer in the knocker or not."

Montgomery offered her an almost sympathetic pout — almost — as his hand reached for her wrist. "Are you bribin' me? Alright, I'll bite: what's yer offer?"

Of course, that wasn't stopping the fact that his hand was inching to the cuffs, about to slap them on her wrists in a blink of an eye and bring her back to the jailhouse until her posse picked her up on some sort of bail.

James. She smiles at him slyly as he speaks about the law. He still thinks the law applies to everyone, that the principles and virtue it was created with have remained, rather than evaporating as political and financial interests control the governing authorities. It wouldn't be long before he changed his mind, she was sure. Repeated miscarriages of justice would leave him jaded. [break][break]

But it was fun that he still put his faith in the law. [break][break]

"Ah, the offer is contingent on you letting me go - a leap of faith, as it were. But as far as taking me in..." His fingertip brushes her wrist, electric, but she pulls back harshly, releasing Kirlia behind her. Through their telepathic bond, the psychic knows to teleport her out of here and back to AbCon. Before she goes, Ameena brings a hand to her head, mimicking the tipping of a hat. "... Only in your dreams, cowboy." [break][break]

And the world warps around her.
